MIAMI SHAMBHALA BUDDHIST
MEDITATION GROUP

The Miami Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group is part of Shambhala International, a worldwide community of over one hundred urban and rural meditation practice and retreat centers founded by the Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.   The leader and principal teacher of Shambhala International is Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche's son and spiritual heir.

The mission of the Miami Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Group is to offer meditation programs as a path to discovering the gentleness, fearlessness, intelligence, wakefulness and humor inherent in every human being, and to build a community based on human goodness and dignity.
We welcome anyone who would like to learn meditation practice and who aspires to expand the experience of gentleness into all areas of life.

"The Shambhala teachings are founded on the premise that there is basic human wisdom that can help to solve the world's problems. This wisdom does not belong to any one culture or religion, nor does it come from the West or the East. Rather, it is a tradition of human warriorship that has existed in many cultures at many times throughout history."
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Shambhala International

DHARMA GATHERINGS

Sundays at 1 PM

The dharma gathering is an opportunity to meditate in a supportive group setting, to learn how to apply the principles of meditation to everyday life and a chance to meet and mingle with fellow practitioners.  We generally sit for an hour followed by a reading and discussion.  Experienced meditators and newcomers are equally welcome.  We welcome all interested meditators to come and practice meditation with us whether or not they choose to participate in the lecture series. For those just entering the path, introductory meditation instruction is available.  Come sit with us!

SHAMBHALA UNPLUGGED
An open mike event with no mike
June 21st 2009
1 - 4 PM

On June 21st in honor of the summer season we are inviting all poets, singers and songwriters to come and bring their offering to our weekly event.  After meditation and a brief discussion regarding the connection between creativity and meditation, we shall open up the event to members of our community who wish to perform their songs or poems.  All are welcome, professional or not.  The event will culminate in a reception with light refreshments.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

DECENCY IS ABSENCE OF STRATEGY

If you are a warrior, decency means that you are not cheating anybody at all. You are not even about to cheat anybody. There is a sense of straightforwardness and simplicity. With setting-sun vision, or vision based on cowardice, straightforwardness is always a problem. If people have some story or news to tell somebody else, first of all they are either excited or disappointed. Then they begin to figure out how to tell their news. They develop a plan, which leads them completely away from simply telling it. By the time a person hears the news, it is not news at all, but opinion. It becomes a message of some kind, rather than fresh, straightforward news. Decency is the absence of strategy. It is of utmost importance to realize that the warrior's approach should be simple-minded sometimes, very simple and straightforward. That makes it very beautiful: you having nothing up your sleeve; therefore a sense of genuineness comes through. That is decency.

From "Perkiness," a talk given to the Directors of Shambhala Training, July 1978.
